Road to Polish Con Trio

Hello, Lovelies!  Just checking in with a gorgeous trio of polishes, one of which I am currently wearing.

Of all of the conventions out there, Polish Con is one that I would love to attend but not without about a gazillion dollars available to spend.  I'd probably want everything available - at least twice, anyway.

If you follow The Polish Convention on their Facebook page, they have been offering trios of polish every week for pre-order leading up to the actual event.  At least, I'm thinking that's how this works.  This is my first year following along so...learning as it goes, I guess.

Anyway, I did order one of the trios that features polishes from three indie makers - Different Dimension, Glisten & Glow, and Cupcake Polish.

l to r: Odyssey ll, Spirit of Chicago, Mystic Blue

All three are holographic beauties.  I ended up using Mystic Blue from Cupcake Polish first.

I applied this sky blue sparkler to my nails on Thursday evening and took a couple of pictures.  Ok, more than a couple because this one is truly fascinating to look at.

 bathroom lighting - lobster hands!
Keep in mind that these pics were taken just after application.  This is two coats with top coat.  I did not use any base coat.  I was actually just playing around and had no real intentions of wearing this as long as I have so far.  It was only after I decided to just wear it that I put on the top coat, which really brought out the holo.  There are also turquoise sparkles in here for when the lighting isn't the best to bring out the holo and it did seem to go a bit green in the bathroom lighting, even though I could not capture that in the picture.  In fact, I wasn't sure there was holo in it until I saw it in the light on my phone.  Wowza!

Now, I have to say that the formula on this one was a bit on the tricky side to work with.  Since this is my first Cupcake Polish, I'm not sure if this is the norm or if being delivered during the summer heat was the culprit.  I'm leaning toward the heat reason since reviews I've seen don't indicate any similar problems.  Regardless of the mild difficulty of getting this polish on my nails, the effort was totally worth it.

So, I put this beauty on on Thursday evening and this is Sunday.  I took a few extra pics today and you'll notice something odd for being 3 days out from initial application - well, odd for me, anyway.  And I'll say it again, this is two coats with only top coat, none of the sticky base coat I normally use.

Both pics were taken under a sunlight lamp with no flash.  Notice anything?  Like no chips and very little wear?  Yep.  I can't believe it myself.  Especially considering I showered and washed my hair the next day and have done a bit of dishwashing without gloves since then.  Now, I did reinforce some areas that see the first chips with some extra top coat - the corners of my middles and thumbs. go nearly 3 full days with nothing?  That's gotta be a record for me.  I am so hard on manicures it's not funny.

In researching the polishes, I discovered a blog and YouTube channel that has a lot more information than I have and she has some gorgeous pics of all three as well as live swatching of all three on her YouTube channel.  I'm talking about Crystal from Seriously Lacqueing.  I'll link her blog as well as her YouTube channel here.  I want to see just how long Mystic Blue will stay on my nails before I have to take it off.  Either that or how long it takes me to get tired of it.  I am anxious to try the other two but for now, I'm in a blue holo mood.

That's it for now.  Thanks for reading and stay tuned!
